Description

For the 2025/2026 academic year, we are actively seeking a dynamic and dedicated Social Studies Teacher to join our faculty. This role involves teaching a range of history and social science courses, with an emphasis on AP or other advanced studies in the Upper School.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Design and deliver rigorous curricula for both lower-level foundational courses and Advanced Placement (AP) Social Studies subjects (e.g., AP U.S. History, AP European History, AP Government).
  • Develop engaging and challenging instructional resources that foster critical thinking, historical analysis, and advanced writing skills.
  • Establish clear learning objectives and utilize diverse teaching methodologies to accommodate the varying educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of students.
  • Maintain accurate grade books and complete necessary administrative duties, including preparing and distributing student performance reports.
  • Actively participate in departmental meetings, ongoing professional development, and school-wide initiatives.
  • Provide individualized tutoring and academic support to students, focusing on college-level expectations and exam preparation.
  • Manage classroom environment effectively, promoting a positive, disciplined, and intellectually stimulating climate.
  • Stay abreast of current topics in educational pedagogy and historical scholarship to ensure curriculum relevance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in History, Social Studies, Education, or a related field. A Master’s Degree or significant coursework in a relevant content area is highly preferred.
  • Connecticut State Teaching License (or eligibility for certification) preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a full-time lead teacher, preferably in a secondary school setting.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching Advanced Placement (AP) or other advanced/honors level Social Studies courses is a significant asset.
  • Proven ability to integrate diverse curriculum resources and use technology to enhance instruction.
  • Must successfully complete state-mandated background checks and fingerprinting.
